Virus'...one thing i hate about windows.

I booted my pc, and then once it gets to the desktop there is a window that says "detected virus shutting down windows" and i can't click out of it. the weird thing is that on my moms laptop which she uses for just word processing she has the same thing. what do i do?

Can you boot into safe mode? Hit F8 repeatedly as the computer starts up, then select safe mode (or safe mode with networking.)

also if you are dont have enough time to download and do all that before it shuts down. I believe you can go to START>RUN and then type

shutdown -a

and it will stop the shutdown. (There may be a space in between shutdown-a)

Cant remember..

I had something similar, sometimes it will be windows anti-virus 2010. It will have you pay $50 to fix your computer what its a not a real company. Ive had that problem in the past. Just grab some free one like avast and run in safe mode. Never click any links to the pop up anti-virus that you will see.

shutdown -a won't abort the shutdown unless it's been put on a timer. Most likely it hasn't and it just shuts down immediately.

Either way, safe mode + AV is the best way to go.
