Bad graphics chip, bad lcd screen or inverter ?

I have a laptop that when turned on the corner of the display looks like it is cracked with a variety of colours that spread across the screen.

I do not have the laptop with me at the moment but I will first try connecting to an external monitor but from what I have said what do you think could be the cause here, bad chip or bad screen ?

It looks like it's cracked? is it? the inverter is normally the brightness so it sounds like that but could be wrong.. was on my previous laptop

It's cracked, the same thing happened to my old laptop.

Yes, you will have to replace the LCD display.

All sorted, just taken more time on it and it was totally shattered. The material inside was actually movable

Thanks for the replies guys. Broken screen is better than a broken graphics chip

And thanks for the offer InventD45 but I think its being hooked up to an external monitor with an external keyboard and mouse
