Default Backup

I got partition magic and it has a backup partition how is this safe? why would that matter. If my computer gets a virus are the backed up programs safe? I don't understand.

Yes course they would be safe since they wouldn't move across the partitions, and so stay on the one drive, plus I doubt the files on the other partition are EXE files and so won't be able to be infected with a virus, okay?
