Avoiding non-Aero mode in Vista

Is anyone aware of a way to avoiding the Windows Vista GUI from going non-aero when using applications that make it so?
The only example I have is WinTV, because it's what I use that causes that. It doesn't actually make it happen from the beginning though, only when I open something that causes UAC to pop up.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can turn UAC off. I think you can also just turn the Aero feature off too.
