I finally had to bake my bfg 9800gt yesterday as it would cause weird sorts of colors at any time, even during post!!! I changed thermal paste many times, kept temps down, made sure drivers weren't corrupt but still, it got worse. Finally i baked it and the problems are gone, played many games that'd instantly do these problems and nothing happened. How long do these cards usually last after a bake? I know the xbox 360 only lasts 4-6 months after a bake, so i'm assuming i have similar time? This is only a 2 year old card too.
