Audio problem inside please help!!!

I hooked my usb microphone up to my laptop and its a "Compaq Evo N180". When I record somthinng in my music software It wont let me hear anything. I went to the sound recorder in windows xp and it let me hear myself very clear. Its just that it wont let me record myself in some of my music software like Audacity, Mixcraft and a couple of more. Can someone please help me fix this problem. Thanks

Are you sure that is isn't recording? Have you checked to make sure that it just isn't letting you hear the recording. Have you made sure that your sound drivers and everything are working, and the you have all the updated drivers, and software updates.

Make sure the music software is set to record from the USB device.

If the Windows Sound Recorder is hearing something, then it must be this.
