Never thought of doing it that way, whats the sound quality like, cant be that good is it?

The sound quality is very good, there is no degradation in the sound quality. I'm using about a 10 foot rca cable. It sounds just the same as if it were coming out of my pc speakers.

I just plug the 3.5mm jack into the microphone socket on the sound card and us 'Audacity 1.3' to record and edit

It may be out of your price range, but if you plan on digitising lots of cassettes in the future you might want to consider this device:

dude, i knew that a long time ago already...but i rather go with the wires..
