Its a known NF4 problem. its the same thing with X-fi AFAIK.

Maybe something simple like check all the wires are firmly put in, no kinks.

Hmmm, not everyone with an nForce4 motherboard gets this crackling sound but it is a problem nonetheless. I don't have any issues. Your sound cards fine. Make sure to check for motherboard updates. Flash the BIOS when it becomes available and check for updates. That's all I can tell you to do.
