Default ATX 12v. 4 pin mobo 8 pin power cable

The title says it. I was setting up my my new pc today and the ATX 12v on the motherboard has 4 pins but my power supply cable comes with a 8 pin connector. Do I need a converter cable? I don't think I can connect just 4 pins.

thats odd. normally it would be a split plug to allow you to use just the 4 pin.

The 4 pins only plug in a certain way on the 8 pin plugs. You can't really use the middle set of four pins, so try it one way and then the other, and if it fits, you're golden.
