What is the one to have and what is newer? They both have the same clock speed at 1.66ghz.
Whats faster and what will use less battery power?

Lookin at this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220682 From what I read, the N450 is just the newer version of the N280, and nothing but battery efficiency advantages that I cant verify anyways. So if it wouldnt matter I would try to save some money by getting something more along these lines http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115646

The N450 uses 3 watts more than the N280.
Also, the N280 has C0 stepping while the N450 features A0 On the other hand, the N450 is EMT64 enabled and can withstand up to 100C while the N280 can not operate in a 64bit environment, and can only withstand 90C. They're both 45nm with a 667FSB.

This is interesting info.
I am going to run Linux, probably Ubuntu when I get it. What are we thinking for a processor? I will also step up to 2gb ram I am sure. Looks like my new computer build is on hold again. I need this for school though.

Go with the N280 if it's for school. You won't be doing much on a netbook anyways with the 945x chipset and IGA. I assume this is a ITX desktop or netbook since those are really the only practical places for an Atom proc.

Get the N450. Its chipset as a whole uses quite a bit less power, and has better graphics performance compared to the N280. It's also supposed to be about the same price, though I haven't checked.
