Default ATI Radeon HD 3870

From what I've read on the internet, the 8800GT is better than the HD 3870. But after looking at some other sites, the performance figures on the 3870 seem to be better. Scan.co.uk says that this is the spec:

Radeon 3870
512MB
GDDR4 Memory
DX 10.1
2250mhz
GPU 775 mhz
320 streams

So is this better than a 8800GT? It certainly looks way nicer and is so much cheaper. Thanks for any replies.

Default Re: ATI Radeon HD 3870

The HD 3870 is certainly a very powerful card on paper, but the G92 is a great core. And ATI cards tend to need time for the drivers to exploit them entirely. Here are some benchmarks for the HD 3870: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid..._10.html#sect0
It is definitely a great card for the money. This is the cheapest I could find: http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=608781 and this is the cheapest 8800GT I could find: http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=608791

Default Re: ATI Radeon HD 3870

Thanks for the reply, as you said this card should get better after some driver updates, this has definately been the case with my laptop's radeon and the Radeon 9550 I used to have shot up from a rating of 3.4 to about 3.7 in vista after an update (and it already had fairly updated drivers before).
