AMD Announces HD3800 Price Drops

AMD called us to announce new prices for the Radeon HD 3850 512 MB and HD 3870. In the USA tonight (and everywhere else soon after), e-tailer prices for the HD 3870 should drop from $245 to $189; The price of the HD 3850 512 MB should drop from $199 to $169.

Could this mean that something new is coming in the graphics world? Stay tuned.

This certainly is a good time to buy a mid-range graphics card in any case, 8800GS, HD 3850, 9600GT and now even the HD 3870 has dropped in into the mid-range price bracket.

wow those are some great deals i remember when i bought my 7600 gt for like $160 and its still kickin lol.

The HD 3800 series is pretty much the best price to peformance card currently available in the 100$ to 200$ price-range. The only higher end card ATI have available is the 3870X2, which is just like the name says, two 3870s on one card. It's the fastest card money can buy ATM.

The 3870X2? It's about $450 I think. It performs better than the 8800 ULTRA which costs $700. So it's a very good buy if you want a high-end card.

Wow..that's pretty crazy...So if I wanted to, I could buy 2 3870X2 for the price of 900. But is it the power of 2 cards in 1 or 2 cards in a box?

The 3870 X2 is fundementally two 3870 stuck together. So two of them would be like have four HD 3870s. They do however, have slower memory, but faster clocks.

Their drivers at the moment...aren't the best. But that's the ATI way- the cards will get more and more powerful as they age =]

I was thinking about getting two...but I'm most likely getting two 9800 GX2s.

I think in the benchmarks almost all the time, the 3870X2 was faster than two seperate 3870 cards. I find that Nvidia's drivers aren't always the best either. Especially for my 8800GT.
