Athlon. Sempron is the cheaper, slower series.

Athlon = Pentium
Sempron = Celeron

depends on what you want to do. I have had no problems with the newer semprons (LE-1150) and also I own an old socket 754 64 3000+ so there is no problem there... I would go with sempron because it is a good processor for the budget and athlon for that person that wants to do a little bit more...

Verbatim has got a point,if you are gaming,get and athlon,if it's simple internet use and email,use the sempron.
