Default Athlon II x2 vs. i3

Newegg.com - Intel Core i3-540 Clarkdale 3.06GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80616I3540

Newegg.com - AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor ADX250OCGMBOX

Just looking for a bit of comparison between the two, if you would be so kind.
I'm assuming the i3 is faster, but how much faster is the question.

Thanks.

I'll tell you one thing, AMD is always cheaper than intel.

Id say, that you'd be better usng the Phenom II X2 rather than the athlon II X2. the i3 is going to be faster than the athlon II X2 because the athlon is more in the core 2 Duo sort of area. Whereas the Phehom II X2 is more in line with i3/i5 and the Phenom II x4 is more in-line with the i5 quads/i7s.

hope this helped.

Pretty much what he says. The I3 will be faster than that Athlon II, but if money is a concern, then I'd recommend the Athlon II. IF you want more bang for the buck though, like Darkseeker said, get a Phenom II X2.

Here's one:
Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Desktop Processor - C3 Revision HDZ555WFGMBOX

Also, remember that the Phenom II has 6MB of L3 cache, while the Athlon II, doesn't.
