I recently purchased this asus mobo to to upgrade my comp, only my comp seems slower than when i had my old mobo.

one change i noticed was my ram,
my ram is a pc 3200 (DDR 400) Samsung 512 mb. (200 mhz)

but when i check my system specs with Aida32
(a program that helps you check your software/hardware settings and info),my ram only goes to 167mhz or so. Shouldn't it be 200mhz?

Here's a more specific system spec of my comp

P4 2.4 ghz cpu ( non HT)
pc 3200 Samsung 512mb ram
Asus P4P8X-SE mobo
80gb of Hdd

I asked one of my friends at school,
he said that it was all because of my cpu

he said, since my mobo supports hyper threading but my cpu isnt HT, the ram and FSB must downclock to match up the cpu.
Is this rly true?

ALso, one more problem.
I thought my mobo was 800/533/400MHZ FSB

but when i read my manual it says 800*(overclocking mode)/533/400MHZ

what's the mean of this? i tried to overclock my FSB, but it's just impossible. My cpu would burn if i do that.

My friend again said that this is because of my cpu,
i wanna know if this is really true or not

thanks for reading a long thread guys =)

Thanks for the reply
but why??
i checked my manual, it gave me a list of all the rams my mobo could support, and my ram was in the list.. =/

Because it will drag your memory speed down to 200MHz. Take it out and your DDR400 will be able to run at 400MHz. Therefore you just doubled your RAM speed.

Your friend is actually quite right. Because your CPU will have a lower FSB than the Ram, the ram iself needs to downgrade to match the CPU.

If you got some Ram thats the same speed as the CPU's FSB, you shouldn't get a performance drop.

Hope this helps :)

ohh boy .. =p
i'm sorry there

(also 200mhz)
there shdn't be "also"
i dunno why i typed that .. =/

i only have one DDR 400 512 mb Ram.
