Jebus, if you can get the XPS 17 with 16GB of RAM (and judging by the customizer on their website, you CAN O.O) then if they are the same price, the Dell would be my pick, even though the hard drive space is a little less.

I configured an identical XPS on Dell's site, and it looks like that build is sound. I never would have guessed they were that far up already. Wow.

The CPU can handle just about any amount of RAM you throw at it as long as the chipset supports it. Since the i7 has an integrated memory controller, it is dependent on that aspect. I would call to clarify, because if they offer the config, they are saying it works. In all honesty though, I have 6GB at work and 8GB at home, and I barely touch the full limit on either system. If you wanted to save a little money on the Dell, and be guaranteed that it'll work, drop the RAM to 8GB and not even worry about it.

Actually, in all of my travels, Toshiba is far inferior to Dell as far as quality is concerned. I will probably never buy a Toshiba laptop. They are a mess every time I try to work with one.
