Default ASDL routors. what the difference between ASDL and ASDL 2

I plan on getting a new wireless ASDL routor. ive been looking at netgear ( please coment if you think there are better brands or youve had a bad experince) and was wondering whats the difference between ASDL and ASDL2.
I was als wondering if there is anything i need to know to be future proof.

my broadband line is 2Mb but will be 4Mb in a couple of months

ADSL2 allows for faster speed.
It really depends if the companys around that area will allow it yet, I think the max speed for ADSL2 is about 24MB/s so I don't think it will be useful if your nothing going to go faster than 12mb/s (Was that right xD...)

Right now I am using a Netgear DG834G. So far its really great but the only problem is with torrenting It can accept more then 200 connections which can be fixed in your torrenting client.
