Question Artic 5: does it work?

...and if it does, is there a time frame that gradually shows the progress? because as of now, my stock thermal paste kept my cpu temp at 40 C. Now with artic 5 its at 43. I just put it on btw.

never tried it personally but I've heard lots of good things about it.
And yeah, the temps should go down a little after a while.

Did you put it on correctly? You're not supposed to put on too much. After a little time passes, the temps should be around 3 to 4 C cooler then it was before. That is, it should be around 36 degrees.

If it doesn't go down, clean off the paste, then re apply. Use a thin thin layer only.

what tibs said. using too much paste is a bad thing. it can create air bubbles (which is the entire reason for putting it on) and lose some of your cooling capablities.

if you want some info bout this (like time frames for it to cool things down) visit this: http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm
and:
http://www.thetechzone.com/reviews/r...nd/page2.shtml (it starts on page 2 of the review, you shouldnt need nething in page 1)

and if you want some install instructions go to:
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

hope this helps.

thanks for the tips, but yea i did put it on correctly. i actually followed their own steps. with the illustrated red strip of paste and everything. right down the middle from mid-top to mid-bottom of heat spreader. then i did the small twist clockwise and counter then secured the HS, and thats it. i should have just left it with the stock lol. i was at a solid 40, tops at idle. now it actually goes up to bout 44, testing it again. ahh i duno

You could try spreading the paste with a clear ziploc bag before you put the heatsink on, just a suggestion.

yeah, but the temps should still go down a little after a while because thermal paste takes some time before it starts working perfectly.

if mine does indeed go down, it will probally go down to about 40, right? which means i was fine initially with the stock paste that was on there..so it seems to me
