Applying TIM to GPU...

Hey everyone. Got my order from newegg today with the new zalman zf1000 and the MX-2 thermal paste (along with my fan controller I've been needing...)

A few questions.
First off, I can use the MX-2 on the gpu right? ...I don't have to use what zalman put in there do I?

Second, what should I do to clean off the old TIM from the GPU? I usually use rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip on my CPU...same deal with the GPU? Also, Sapphire was really sloppy...there's TIM all over the chip and around it...there's so much that it's on some of the tiny components around the chip. It looks similar to this. Should I just leave that along and just clean off the chip itself? Or should I attempt to clean around it too?

Thanks guys. As soon as I get a good answer I'm gunna start throwing it together!

I'd clean it all off, the way you said works. You can use the MX-2 and be fine.

Well since you are Honorary Heatsink Whore, I have no reason to not trust your advice :D

I still lol every time I read that.

Thanks, Cabbs.

No problem :D

Um, Wolv. I think that IS spam...jk :p

And cabbs, holy mother...that is a load of HS's.

BTW, so far my GPU temps have dropped 10* idle..haven't tested load yet :D

Expect to see similar results under load too. They do an excellent job of cooling the GPU as compared to the stock cooler.
