It was a BIOS update. This board would boot at 500 FSB before this BIOS, and now the highest is 419. CPU didn't make a difference, did it with my previous E6300. I plan on a new motherboard soon though.

in texas we have this saying... "if it ain't broke don't fix it." if the bios revision works perfect, leave it alone.

The only problem with that is I would have to update the bios eventually to get my 965 chipset to work with 45nm CPU's.

my E6400 is over 2 years old and with it's crippling 2mb of cache and "slow" 1066fsb it'll still hand the black edition processor it's ass on a silver platter.

I rest my case

Oh, and the E6400 sells for how much? $190 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115004 compared to the $89 5000+ X2 black edition which is the better performer. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103194
And if you check the prices of the E6550: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115030 The 64 X2 still offers fantastic price to performance.
Intel fanboy .

ok so stock to stock it performs a whopping 3.1% better in some synthetic benchmark... what's your point? i run mine on air 24/7 at 3.55ghz... find a black edition that will match that performance and i might consider using an AMD processor for my grandmother's email machine.

The point isn't that it performs 3% better. It's that you can buy it for $89 and it will give the same performance as a $170 Intel CPU. Overclocks to 3.2Ghz too.

Some people value top performance, while others value bang-per-buck. Either way there is a loss, and both sides have to pay, whether it's money or sacrificing performance.

Looks pretty good man. Nice overclock on your setup! I was going to pick up a E8500 but I can't find any place that has them in stock. Probably a good thing though since I've been spending way to much money lately.
