I have a Ultra X2 550w psu now and I was told I needed something bigger if I was going to run sli. Will my current psu work?

Yes, your Ultra X2 550W is Nvidia SLI certified. It will work fine with two 9600GT in SLI. EVGA recommends a 450W PSU with 28A on the 12V rail for SLI.

The AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition is a great choice even if you don't overclock. A simple multiplier change, and it's running at 3GHz while using standard air cooling.
Um, wouldn't that be overclocking?

Yea, I thought about that.

It is, but is isn't in the sense of going through balancing the FSB, voltages, and having a top notch cooling solution to find the sweet spot. With these things, you just set it and forget it.
