Default Another CPU Question.

Hi,

What is the difference between a register in a CPU and a shift register, are they the same circuit in a cpu?

Sorry, ignore my question let me ask a different one. What data do shift registers hold, is it numbers to have arithmetic and logical operations to hae carried out on them?
