Core 2 Extreme
even though its almost 1000$

anyway he is right C2D is the best bang for your buck. but if your on a tight budget then check out the AMD Athlon 64X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz. its a really good value at only 65$ on newegg and until the 30th you will get Rainbow Six:Vegas FREE. if you buy a good cooler then this thing will overclock like a beast you can hit 3GHz no prob if you get a good chip

ok mid range first thing is what is your budget

and secondly amd solo cores are better at the moment but intel dual cores are better so what do you want

it realy dosent come down to intel is better it depends for what you are wanting the processor , say you only have a lil money to spend and aer wanting a cheap dual core amd offer a good dual core processor realy cheaply so please tell us your budget and what you want the computer for

Intel for sure right now. They are crushing AMD. Check the processor section there is a sticky poll on this topic.

definitely intel. The core 2 duo is pretty cheap and they're faster than AMD processors.
