I am looking to build a new rig, and I guess I havent explored that deep, but (correct me if im wrong) that dual core processors are dramatically cheaper than say, the Athlon FX-57, which is about 1k$

So im stuck trying to figure out which I should for: dual core, Athlon FX series, or something else?

BTW Im not really interested in video editing, this is more for gaming. Im also on a budget.

What advice would you guys give? What processor?

For an overall budget PC that performs well for gaming and other stuff, get the Athlon 64 X2 dual core CPU. Yes, the X2 is much cheaper than the FX, but the FX does OWN in games. Not that the X2 sucks or anything like that, but the X2 is more than capable in gaming as well.

Well, a faster, single core would perform better in games for now... but the dual cores are still nice...

i think the highest dual core is almost pushing $1k if not it already went past that. I heard that F.E.A.R will be multithreaded which will give an advantage to dual cores.
