i am looking to buy an amd 64 processor and dont know which one is better. The amd 64 3500+ or 3800+. I plan to oc it and play games like half life 2 and doom3 on it.

Yep.
3500+ is of a lower speed than the 3800+, the 3500+ would be able to clock to a speed equal to that of the 3800+ however. So it just depends if you want to save a bit of cash.

Yes, but not vast amounts more than the 3500+, hey if you have the money go for the 3800+ but like i said there won't be a noticeable performance gap if you don't.

To be correct, you can overclock a 3800+ to 4000+ or 4200+

(The 4200+ Overclock doesn't mean you'll get the same performence as an actual Athlon 64 X2)

i dont think so, you should be able to overclock the 3500+ to 2.6GHz because i could do that with my 3200+ so you might even get to 2.8GHz which is really fast for an amd i dont think u would get any higher with the 3800+ so i would buy the 3500+ its a great cpu, it plays all the new games and it overclocks very well and u will save a ton of money but when u buy it make sure its a venice core
