Please think before you post a reply to this because it is complicated.
my cousin has been given a IBM thinkpad 380D. ok here is the problem:
1) the battery is not holding a charge.
2) it is not wireless ready.
3) it has not got a port for a broadband connection (lan)
4) it has only got a 2 GB hdd in it.
ok, she has told me i can spend up to £100 to get it on line and working.
i can get a battery for about £50. and a wireless card for about £20. i don't fancy putting a new hdd in it (a bit complicateed for me).
but i think it is not worth spending that much on something that is such a antique.
i can go on ebay and get a much much better laptop for £100. but would that put me back to square 1 with the battery?
im in a pickle, which way do i go refurbish the dinosaur, or buy from ebay.
please don't say spend more money because they don't have any more.

If you can get a faster/bigger hard drived laptop for cheaper, and then use that, that will be a much better proposition.

I wouldn't worry too much about the battery either, as even though theres a chance it might not last a long while on charge, buying a new one won't break the bank, of what you could not have got without spending for a wireless card, etc.

So basically, if you can get a new one for cheaper with all thats required, go for it, and if you need to buy a battery (not likely all won't hold a charge, as that ones probably dodgy), you'll probably have a better deal on your hands.

thats the way i kinda feel about it.
i need to find a seller with good feedback now.
