Default Acer Aspire 3610 Optical Drive

hey i got given an old Acer Aspire 3610 and it did not have a hard drive or Optical Drive... i have now put a hard drive in it and an optical drive in it but it only detects the hard drive...
if i take the hard drive out the cd rom is on IDE1 and works but if i add the hard drive then the cdrom disappears in place of the hard drive on IDE1

a solution would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
schultzy

Do you have another ribbon in which you can connect it to so each can be on their own?

Or do you have the HD at the end and the CD in the middle?

Perhaps one of the connectors is defective.
