Accessing SSD

I have removed a 500 GB SSD from a computer and put it into a USB external case.

When I try to access the SSD I can see the two partitions on it. The first partition was the old C; drive which contained the operating system. The second partition was the old D: drive which contained all the data files.

I can access second partition (old D:) but when I try to access the Users Folder on the first partition (old C:) I am told that I do not have permission to access it.

How can I convert the folders or first partition (old C:) so that I can access all the folders?

You can try grant yourself ownership over the folder. If that doesn't help, you can boot up a live Linux OS.
Linux doesn't give a damn about windows permissions. Then you can access the folder and copy the files to the C drive and delete D:\ after.
