Default About PC Power Supplies

Say if you were to get an 800W power supply unit - but only needed a 650W would it do any damage to have an 800W?

They claim everything. I can go to the store, buy a 500W PSU for 15 bucks, bring it home, randomly create a name and logo, then stick the sticker with amps and stuff saying 800W...that's how it works.
