You contradicted yourself in a way. If you need DX10, then the two 8600GTS is what you need.

ok theres something not adding up here,

why 2 X 8600GTS's ? lets look at some prices,

8600GTS = 131 -- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132333 X2 = 262
8800GTS = 270 -- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135732 X1 = 270

so it seems like a no brainer to me ??? always get 1 better card rather than 2 X SLI

although for now id stick with the 7900 because that is still a very good card

Erm, I don't know where did 162 came from, but the price of two is 223.02

But if he already has a 7950GT, he can stick with it.

No, I do believe the price is highlighted in red. There's some sort of saving on it.

That includes for the 8800GTS, which is 230.
