700 Series or 900?

Your thought. "Well that's a dumb question." That's what I thought as well, until I noticed the price drops of the 700 series. It's not uncommon to see a 780 for about $300. WHAT $300?

All seriousness now. That's a decent amount cheaper then a 970, and they're very similar in performance. Also the 700 series is getting discontinued soon. So in the end, what is the better decision?

If you want to save money, go for it. however a 970 is only 30 bucks more.
You get a little better performance and it has a lower power draw. That also results in lower temps.
Lower temps can result in better overclock or lower fan RPM. this is ofcause if you compare a 970 and a 780 with the same cooler.

Glad you think the same. I was almost sure I was going to go with the 970, now I definitely will.

Read the comparison that CPUBoss did on the 980 and 780 GeForce GTX 970 vs 780, They come very close to each other in most tests. Also take a look at the 970 vs 770 GeForce GTX 970 vs 770, The 970 beats it in most benchmarks. But like said if you want to save cash then go for something in the 700 series..
