Default 6600 gt 128mb or 256mb ??

Hi there
After some great advice off posters on here ive decided to opt for a gf 6600 gt, as for the money it appears to be the best value, my choice now is should i get the 128mb or 256 mb versions ?? i seem to remember someone telling me it makes little differance ? not too sure, but any suggestions are welcome.
cheers Andy c

well the 256mb version has doubled the amount of memory so ofcourse it will perform better. (if the cards are identical in every other aspect)

So check the detailed info and if there ain't any big differences then go for the 256mb version.

With current games, 128MB is usually more than enough. However, as with all things related to computers, games will evolve and will eventually take advantage of more memory. I would personally get the 256MB - it'll be better in the long-run.

Yeah, I think you should get the 256mb one too. It'll allow you to play some high quality games with less texture compression, etc, to have them looking better.
Plus, it can add to performance, so definietly go for the 256mb.

256mb. Hands down. With games like F.E.A.R. and Quake 4, RAM, video and system, is very important.

That's the only one Newegg has. XFX, in my opinion, is not so good. Also, it's AGP, so make sure your motherboard is AGP first. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this card, so I guess you're stuck with 128MB.

That card doesn't look too bad though.

XFX isn't too bad either. There are worst companies...

Overall, I don't think that ones too bad, and if it offers 256mb which the others don't, then that can't be bad either, can it?

Yeah since when is there a 256MB card? The only one I've ever seen is the AGP version, but as for PCI-E, it only comes in 128.

But there is!

And the 256mb version is not so expensive compared to the 128mb version, only a small difference in price. So yeah, go with the 256mb version.

Yeah, I think you should.

Can't third party companies add to the card in some way though? Because every card is somewhat different. Maybe XFX decided to add another 128mb of RAM to help.

Yet, if you have PCI-E and not AGP, this card would be pretty useless anyway

It's usually up to the manufacturer to decide whether it's a good choice or not. nVIDIA simply licenses the 6600 GT design to other companies like BFG Tech, MSI, ASUS etc. It's up to those companies to decide what to add. That's why you never seen nVIDIA come out with their own cards like ATI does. For example, ASUS makes some really nice cards, they're expensive, but they have lots of features and additional things that other companies don't have. I was only recently with the G70 that nVIDIA decided to manufacture it themselves and just sell it to companies to put their stickers and labels on it. That's why most of the 7800 GTX's has that heatsink with the nVIDIA Eye logo on it.

Yeah, so that brings to my mind why no other companies decided to make 6600GT's in 256mb models...

Cost? Practicality? Popularity? I don't know, but there's usually always a reason.

Yeah I guess... maybe the 6800 came to quick for them to bother.

Also, be reminded that a 256MB Video card has a higher processor than a 128MB, but there's not that much difference. But, it will always be better
