5.1 surround not working! need help

I have a gigabyte GA-K8NS and it came with a sound card expansion. I just bought 5.1 speakers and i plugged the explasion in. The sound is only coming out of the left and right fronts. I have my xp set on 5.1 surround, and ive re-downloaded the Realtek AC97 audio driver (my motherboards driver).

what else can i do?!

the lines are connected right.... lines go from the comp to the subwoofer, then from the subwoofer to the 5 other speakers.

sum cheap OG speakers. PC club had them on sale for 20 bucks.

Sound card probably doesn't support 5.1 speaker setup.

ya it supports up to 7.1 it has the rear, center/subwoofer and front plugins

is the source that you are playing from encoded into 5.1 channels?

MAybe double check the software for Realtek. There's got to be something in there that you can alter sound properties for your speakers. Double check surround sound settings is on and stuff like that.

well the driver that my comp is showin the onboard nvidia nforce audio. is that right? The extra sound card it came with connects directly to the motherboard, so would it still run off that?
