4870 X2 finally here

I wonder if it'd be worth me dropping money down on the 4850X2 when it arrives....
I can't see me using the power of the 4870X2 with resolutions max of 1680x1050 on my current monitor.

Wow though, 752 watts used when in load using 2 of those cards in Crossfire...

A single GTX 280 is better than a single 4870...

Not by much .. and the GTX280 is 2 gpus in one I believe isn't it?

Also .. WHAT happened to them being cheaper than the 280s? Or was it just for the signle 4870? £370 for a X2?! :s

Edit: .. It's freakin $559.99 on Newegg!! Like, £100 cheaper .. why why why can't Newegg ship to the UK??

The GTX 280 is a single monolithic die. GT200 is 576mm2, RV770 is a mere 256mm2. Nvidia and ATi chose different strategies, ATi's payed off, Nvidia's didn't

Do they not have a dual GPU version of the 280 then?

That's a hell of a size difference!!

No, the cost would simply be too high. It would almost definitely have to be a dual PCB board, not a single PCB like the X2. Two 512bit PCBs would be very complex and expensive. Not to mention the power requirements and heat output.

What I think we might see, is a dual GPU GX2 card made with the 55nm G92b with higher clock speeds and faster GDDR3 memory.

Hmm, fair dos.

Well .. I just got to say, I ordered a 4870 X2 :D

Not off Overclockers. They were way too expensive .. got it for £284.. somewhere... ;-)

Simply can NOT wait.
