Default 45NM Quad (Q9550) or Core i7

I'm currently running a Core 2 Duo E7200, I think its time to upgrade but I cant decide what to. If I go for the Core 2 Quad I can keep my recently purchased P45 motherboard and keep my ram. If I go for the Core i7 I will have to somehow raise 600 or so, replace my motherboard and ram too. Is the Core i7 really going to be worth that much money and fuss over the Core 2 Quad. I use my PC for gaming by the way. Thanks.

For gaming, no, it's not worth it to spend $200 in a motherboard and $150 on RAM to go to the i7, the Q9550 will be snapping at it's heels in games.
