Default 4200 and 3200 RAM in same PC?

Got a guy with some 4200 RAM for 5 bucks locally and my PC takes 3200, but 4200 also shows up. Same 240 pin. DDR. Can they be mixed?

It should. The PC2-4200 will downclock to the PC2-3200 speed.

one thing here makes no sense, DDR is not 240 pin, DDR is 184 pin, DDR2 is 240 pin...
