What would perform better?

2x GeForce 7300 GT 512
Vs
1x GeForce 7900 GT 256

I know little to nothing about SLI, but I've read that with low/mid level cards it can perform poorly or even worse.

Right now I have the upgrade choice to either go SLI and buy a 2nd 7300 GT 512, and an SLI ready MoBo or, just upgrading the GPU to a higher end single card.

Right now, both options are roughly the same price, so that's not an issue.

Any thoughts?

7900GT definitely, but it wouldn't be worth it right now. Either get an 8800GTX/GTS, or wait for Nvidia's cheaper DX10 cards, or wait for ATI's R600.
