2TB HDD Anyone?

I just hope some sort of diagnostic software is provided with this drive because you would atleast want a heads up when its about to fail so you can copy important stuff from it to other drives.

If i were to actually get one of these at some point I would wait until I see some reviews from average people on what they think in case there are any major problems like when I bought my seagate 1.5tb drive.

I had that freezing problem that everyone on the internet was talking about but since I was apparently one of the first people to buy it I had absolutely no clue what was going on for weeks.

15 years ago that's what you would have been saying about a 2gb HDD. The future is here. Files are getting bigger. MP3's are getting more qualityier. and

I bet you all the my friends will waste their money and go buy a 2tb HDD. Then they'll come to me and start saying:

Friends: "Hahaha! I got 2tb and you only got half what I got" blah blah blah
Me: "Cool, how much have you used."
Friends: "About 150gb."

That reminds me of something hilarious that happened in the fall. My sisters bf is always trying to make his computer better than mine but its real old and doesn't support much. Anyway I bought the 1.5tb drive then he gets all jealous and since his 300gb drive was dying he went out and bought a 1tb drive since thats all he thought i had. Then he was bragging about that but then when he got it i said how do you plan on hooking that thing up because he only had ide ports so he had to go out and buy a sata controller card.

If you're worried about a hard drive failure, then you would go ahead and purchase two of these. Just like the person who has ALL his info on a single 250gb hard drive, someone might have ALL his info on this 2TB drive.

That is twice the cost. Who is ever going to fill up a 2 TB drive? I am sure some can do it, but not very many. I mean heck who even fills up a 1 TB drive?

My point of someone putting all of their stuff on a 2 TB was because they have more than 250gb worth of data. So instead of using multiple hard drives they use ONE cause a single point of failure for your data. Sure you can buy two, but that is not very economical to most consumers. A regular user could fill up a 250gb hard drive with applications, games, and things of the like.

It doesn't take all that long to fill a 250gb drive. But to fill a 2 TB drive would take years. Then people will more than likely get complacent and think their drive won't fail and when it does they will lose a heck of a lot more than just 250gb worth of data that is mostly consumbed by video games and programs.

when I got my first computer it had an 812MB hard disk, (looking at my computer now the windows folder on it's own is bigger than that!!).

the thing about having space is that you find a way to use it.

without a big hard drive, I'd have never have ripped all my DVDs to the PC, (imagin the inconvenience of having to actually go an get the disk when you want to watch a film!).

I'd still have all my software burned to CD's rather than just being left on the hard drive.

so far as who will fill a 2TB disk, well, I couldn't fill it, but then I'm not really the intended market here, this is for people with a lot of data,

probably businesses, and people looking to store a lot of data.

people looking to dump all their media on a PC etc...

I mean whilst I don't have that much data now, I could probably fill 2TB fairly easily just with media, (I mean making decent rips of films rather than just divx copies, then I could do it fairly easily).

And now that Blu-ray movies are 25gb a pop (Correct me if im wrong) - I Think 2tb hardrives are going to be more common.

are you talking about on the actual disc or after being ripped?

I'm pretty sure you can rip one down to a couple of gigs.

Alright guys I don't know how any of you can say you can't fill it up. I currently have 1TB of space and I am constantly deleting stuff to make room for new files. Just think how big your porn stash is alone. Mine fills up over 500GB lol.

Also I have an xbox360 so I rip all my movies to avi files and stream them. This way I have a full catalog of movies I can watch without having to sort through discs. This alone is taking 300GB of space.(I know sad I have more porn than actual movies lol)
