ok i am going to set up a forum for my city and need to know a few things

i have found a plan on godaddy.com for 9.95
and these are the specs
10,000mb diskspace
500,000mb (500gb) bandwidth
1000 email accounts
25 mysql
ms access
sql server 200
then it asks whether i want windows or linux for my server opperating system, which should use?

are these the right specs for a server for a small town forum

it depends on what forum software you want to run...

a forum is unlikely to run using MS access.

Linux..
Mainly because its more secure, in ways. But also, its more stable then windows.

But then again, Windows has a lot more of a user-friendly environement...

Well you said small forum. So what does that mean? Like.. only limited users or what. But if its "small" what ever it be, then, go with windows, because it is alot more user-friendly.

I would suggest going with whatever platform you are most familiar with, and have used the most. This was posted a while ago, which did you decide on, if any?

Your plan offers ms access, so its better to use windows. Windows is more user friendly.

hmm, well if your forums are gonna HAVE to use Ms Accsess, go with windows (i dont know of any forums that use it, but oh well) If the forum doesnt use MS accsess, Linux!!! :) for all of the reasons arrizX said (
