Hey guys. I have a few questions, as I am new to hosting.

1. I have cable. Do I get a few megs of space for hosting wit it?

2. If not, what software do I need to make my computer a host?

Thanks in advance.

Alright i am no server expert, but it would depend on ur isp on what kind of hosting that they would offer they may offer space for some hosting, and you would probably need apache for making your computer a host or IIS if u are running xp pro or any over windows server OS or windows 2000 pro

My ISP does not allow server hosting. So they block ports that are used in server hosting. So all I did for my server that host it on non common ports like 33 or 34 for intance.

Most Isps dont allow web hosting from a home comp via a dsl or cable modem,

The best way is to get a leased line from an isp and they cost too much money, Or just build your own server and colocate it into a datacentre,

But if your running a small website then i think that should be fine if its not taking too much bandwidth, If you have aload of people acessing your website you may notice that your internet will go very slow,

I used to run a irc server and a web server from my home comp and i shall never do it again because my irc server used to get hacked all the time :D
