wrong ram amount displaying

the pc im on now is displaying 192mb ram and i know it has 512mb ram. this pc was brought from some random shop and it even says 512mb in system information, just not when i right click my comp. is the ram buggered or do i just need to take it out and put it back in or? ...
 
Ok, could be bad RAM, take it out, and swap slots, and try others if you can..does the computer have onboard video?
 
yea it has onboard vid... ill try swapping the ram. i need to find a screwdriver first

onboard video cards use the ram from the computer as memory. This is the most likely explanation for all of the ram not showing up, some of it is dedicated to the vid card.
 
I have 512MB of system RAM, but my laptop video component uses 128MB from it so I'm left with 38 MB for my main system.

It looks like 64MB is being allocated somewhere else according to what you have posted up there, hmmm.
