For bulk, I don't think the Shack would have the best price....I've seen some sites people have linked to before where stuff was dirt cheap, but since I'm not real into this stuff, I didn't save them. I cannot even remember who it was who linked them. It was a tenured member, though, I think.

Radio Shack is really expensive from what I've heard. A friend recommended sparkfun.com, but I'd like to know if there's any cheaper places.

The guys at my Radio Shack said they were getting rid of all their electrical components. I got some resistors there, and expected them to have the zener diodes and DB-9 connector I needed. Days of old, they had all that and more.

For any UK readers, I quite like rapid electronics - often cheaper than Maplins.

Well, I have some update on this: I stopped reading the Wikipedia articles because they all drift off to theory. I stopped by my friend's house and he gave me a run down of how things generally work. He explained the basics. What I'm going to end up doing is here in the next week or so, I'm going to order a few basic components (LEDs, resistors, wires, capacitors, etc), an Arduino, a breadboard, and some sensors. I'll just build random crap and learn how things work. If I need supplemental information I'll head over to Wikipedia.
