Go with the HD 4850, it's around the same price but a fair it faster.

Q9550. Faster clock speed, and a nice x8.5 multiplier.

And what about a motherboard? Will you be overclocking?

Skt 771 Xeon will require an Intel server board unless I'm very much mistaken.

the Gigabyte is AMD so you'll need to need to change the cpu anyway

Yeah Xeon is more for servers, I suggest either a Core 2 Duo or one of the AMD Phenoms, or you can wait for the new AM3 or Corei7 chips coming out.

The 5xxx Skt771 is totally different to the Core2Duo Skt 775 E3xxx series, the E3110 is basically an E8400.

A Few of the members here have E3110 Xeons. They are very much like the E8400's, but are supposed have had more testing etc...

Just because it says "SERV0R CUPZ lol" on the box doesn't mean that it wont work in a desktop (although in this case, the chose a CPU with a non-desktop socket, so he would have to use a server motherboard, which REALLY drives up the cost)
