Rebuilding/upgrading a computer

we have 2 computers, one old, one newer

on with a fried power supply, cd/dvd drive, larger hard drive

old one with working power supply, cd/drive, small hard drive

we want to put the larger hard drive, and the dvd drive, and put it on the older computer, then load ubuntu on it..

3 problems... larger hard drive won't work, and nothing shows up on the screen, and we don't know how to connect the usb..

here's a picture, tell us what we're doing wrong (we can take more pics, just tell us to):

I can't really see. Is the 4 pin power connector plugged into your motherboard?
