Well, if you need me to, I can take apart my Compaq and then show you how to fix it.

If I remember correctly, first you need to pry off the panel where the power button and the speakers are. Keyboard might have to be removed too. Keyboard won't come up without removing a screw on the bottom of the laptop. Then you begin disconnecting the video connector on the motherboard side. Also the wifi antenna (2 cables) needs to be disconnected and fed through the hole to the side where the keyboard is. Then remove the screen lid from the laptop. Then take apart the panel. It should be straight forward from there.

I'm just basing this on my half-assed memory. I'll make a repair guide for you if you need it.

My Sony Vaio PCG-FR315B. Seriously, when the AV software is updating it brings this machine to a standstill! It has a built in floppy drive lol

You have to admit, still looks good after all those years. What are the specifications on that thing? Windows XP Home Edition runs fine on my machine, abit with fan issues that I'm looking to get replaced.

Yea, I like the solid look of it and if it was widescreen it'd be perfect. It's running the Celeron 2.6Ghz CPU, 40GB hard drive and only 256MB RAM. I'm looking at ditching the 256MB stick and getting two 512MB sticks for it and maybe a bigger hard drive.

Despite my frustration with it I know what I need to do to make it work much better, but RAM for it is expensive!

When I got it I had to remove a whole load of dust from the exhaust fins but it still kicks some heat and the fans are never off.
