I agree. I never buy the top of the line card unless something succeeds it and the price goes down.

I can never justifying buying top of the line. Just because that "what happens when the next best comes out and it only costs 5 dollars more than what I bought this for" comes to mind :|. Same reason I haven't bought a 216 yet. Don't want to settle for DX10. Especially since I intend to upgrade to Se7en soon. :S

how long is a 5970, anyone know?

I'm real happy for you, Imma let you finish; But Nvidia had one of the best video cards of all time. Of ALL TIME!

Nice card. Shame it would make no sense for me to purchase one.

EDIT: My mistake. I thought I saw 5850. Then I realized XFX never made that plastic router shell for the 5xxx series xD.

im thinking of getting a 5850, or 5870, or who knows a 5970, but i doubt ill go for the last one

I'd say go for the 5850 if you had to settle on one. It's a VERY powerful card though. I mean, think about the GTX 285, then add a bit to it. I can't imagine a need for a 5970 unless you had a 28+ monitor or wanted e-pen.
