Car Thread!

Decent cars can be built N/A with intakes and exhaust. You just have to know what you're doing. You have to get a ton of mods before you start seeing gains, though.
Intake, throttle body, intake manifold, port polished head, cams, long tube header, no cat, high flow flex and high flow catback, finish off with a chip and you're good to go!
And I dunno enough about water meth injection, but I probably wouldn't bother on a streetable car. There's this one guy at the Focus forums I'm on with a SVT Focus boosted to over 300whp at 19 psi, I heart it. So LambOfGod's numbers are probably pretty accurate as well.

yea if you have an intake and exhaust on a n/a four banger dont go around talkin trash.

many intakes will give you next to nothings gains.

same with exhausts.

(on a n/a 4 cyl)

save your money. do your research. use forced induction

I dont know much. But I love the sound of them :D

Water/methanol injection is mainly used for cooling the combustion chambers of engines by adding water/methanol mix to the incoming air-fuel mixture, allowing for greater compression ratios and at the same time, eliminating the problem of engine knocking. This increases the octane rating of the fuel, meaning that performance gains can be obtained when used with a supercharger or turbocharger, hell, even nitrous, and a bunch of other mods to go with it.

Intake and exhaust is where you'll see the most power gains on a n/a vehicle. Get the engine breathing better and you'll notice a difference.

But however, my friend is building a blown Quad 4 with an Eaton M90. He's going to run around 12-15 psi I think. I'd love to see the hp numbers on that.

I want one of these babies..

sorry man but thats just not true.

If you want the most powergains on a n/a vehicle.
its simple for the money nothing can touch Nitrious.

and even if you think thats not true there is a full list of parts that will have much more effect on a n/a motor than intake and exhaust.

such as a propely done heads/cam setup.

(ps yesterday i drove an Ls1 Trans AM 5.7L v8 , and damn that was a fun car. most of them Dyno 300Whp+ from the factory stock.)

ohh and Bolt ons on a v8 such as the LS1 is a totally differnt story.
many people gain 50 to 80 Whp with just bolt ons on those cars.

where as on Hondas i have read many articles, where people put a $600 exhasut on it and gain 10HP and an intake for $200 and gain 5Hp

yea spend $800 and have 15 more HP
or spend $800 on a Wetshop of Nitrious and have 75 more HP

I don't think nitrous really counts as N/A though since really you're introducing more O2 into the engine. But you're right about the bang for the buck. I'd totally do it if my car could handle more power without the trans falling apart.

Ahhh, you still thinking about that TRD Supercharger? It would look so sweet in that engine bay. I love the design of the new version. I hate the looks of my roots blower, but it gets the job done. I'm sure a turbo kit exist for the tC, but either way, it can be boosted no problem.

Check out this tC for sale with the supercharger installed. Price is ok for $19,000 for what is has (he's added on quite a bit), but it doesn't quite match the Cobalt SS.

Honda needs a turbocharger for the SI, badly if they want to compete with the other factory tuned compact sedans like the GTI, Cobalt SS, TRD Corolla/tC, etc. We'll see how they design the motor for it since it's already a high revving beast.

K so I forgot about nitrous. Like D-Lew said, I don't think nitrous is really n/a.

And as for the intake and exhaust, I was talking about best bang for the buck. I didn't specify that. Cams and heads are expensive and not everyone wants to tear into the motor.
