Car Thread!

I painted one of the valve covers. Had to do something that felt more productive then cranking on bolts for a while, lol. I am also working on getting the tranny off. It's hard to get off... I thought it would slide off when I unbolted the whole thing.

The valve covers are going to be silver, and probably the heads too. Intakes will be silver too. I think I will find a nice blue for the whole engine as well. And maybe paint the upper intake blue too... I'm not sure.

But for now, I am taking a break, gotta go get ready for prom, lol.

That would be what I forgot. Thanks, lol. I guess I learn from mistakes... I'll try and finish taking it off later today or tomorrow then.

I just checked out the GTI, he gave me a ride in it and it runs really well. He has a brand new exhaust waiting to be put in, the interior is in pretty good condition considering the two front seats are from a mk3 passat k2 edition (good seats, heated too). There is no headliner but the sunroof (I don't think there's any glass) works, it's a crank too. The windows work fine (crank, keep in mind it's an '84). It has Vmax coilovers on it and the oringinal GTI wheels. The stereo was completely rewired and some new speakers were installed (no sub, that would be so goofy) and a new headunit was put in. The windshield wipers don't work but it has rainx which should be fine until the wipers are fixed. Clutch is fairly new (within a year). He wants $900 for it, which I think is pretty good.

So what do you guys recommend for painting the engine? What color I mean. My friends say red and black. I'm not really sure. I was gonna do black, with the valve covers, and intakes aluminum/silver, but I'm not really sure. I saw a set of blue vacuum and radiator tubes on summitracing for around $30 too I think. And I think all those need replacing anyway...

The color of your vehicle IMO

My just got finished putting a 4 inch lift on his Jeep nad new tires also. New muffler also...

Well, I got the tranny off finally...

Wasn't able to get the torque convertor off... nuts were slipping. Gonna soak them in some liquid wrench each night for a couple days, then try, haha.

Spilled a little.... Looks like I killed someone.

Did something that felt productive and painted a valve cover... lol

I have also decided to go carb now. With a roller cam, single pane intake, 600 cfm Holley double pump, I should hit a bit over 250hp. Then with A/C and smog pump eliminate, headers to an H pipe, UD pulleys, and oil pan windage tray, I might be able to hit 300hp at the crank. And around 330 ft/lbs. AOD will loose some of that, but thats still good.
I've been playing with Desktop Dyno 2003, it's a neat little program. And then with Drag 2003, I should be able to run about a 14s ET in the 1/4.

Once you get that torque converter off you should leave it off. Manual transmissions FTW.

I want to get a T5 really bad, but that will cost about $100-200 right there... And then I need to get a clutch pedal, slave cylinder, cut a hole in the floor, and get all the cables. I might do that next summer, not this year. The loss through the AOD I don't like much either...
