yeah, the 351 is a bit bigger, but I think either way, the 302 and 351 require a slight mod to the firewall and heater box. I think I will just see which one is offered to me from the best price, lol. M5OD from and F-150? I'll look into that as well. There was something about truck engines that made them hard to fit I think. A larger tooth flywheel maybe?

I don't post on therangerstation very much, mostly read and lurk, haha, but I post on RPS a lot.

the firewall to cab seam in the trans tunnel has a lip that sticks out perpendicular to the body, down into the trans tunnel about an inch. Make some relief cuts and bend it over.
The heater box needs a little notch cut out in the case to clear the valve covers. 351w just needs a bigger notch.
The flywheel diam wont have any physical influence on the engine and tranny going in...as all 302s use the same bellhousing pattern/shape and the flywheel fits in there.

The truck engines just have a huge intake that wont fit under the hood of a ranger. The explorer 5.0L has a great head/cam/intake combo from the factory. All better than any stock HO 5.0L combo. IIRC the 'sploder uses larger injectors and a more aggressive/performance tune to make good with the higher performance top end.
The only problem with the 'sploder heads is you pretty much have to remove the exh. manifolds to change plugs.

That intake would be the same with an engine from an Econoline van too? But if I just got a longblock, I could get an intake on ebay or something. A GT40 intake from an xploder or something.

For $800 I was offered an X, but my parents don't like the idea of a wreched vehicle in the driveway....

'89 Econoline. He offered me $300 for the 351 + tranny and engine side harness. That would be an AOD I was told. Just need to pick up a 351 ECU, and the o2 + MAF harness.

if its a 351w its NOT an AOD. If its a 3 speed its a C6. If its a 4 speed auto, its a E4OD.
Now thats how ford wouldve sent it out. Thats not to say someone didnt swap an AOD in.

Dont know what intake it is.

I was told since it was an '89 E-series, it would be an AOD. I'm not sure though, that was someone else, not the seller. I told the seller to check the casting number. I thought it would be one of the 3 speeds though.

if the door tag is still there, it will have a trans code..from there youll be able to tell what was installed from the factory. Being its a 351w I cant see it being an AOD, unless it was swapped in. Thats why youll never find a 5 speed behind a 351w (from the factory) in a bronco or F150. They are light light duty trannies.

F250 and up got a zf5 5speed manual tranny with a very nice, fully synchronized, low 1st gear (5.72:1). Its a big, mucho beefy transmission so you'd need a body lift to fit it. I would look for one of those if it fits your purpose. The OD is 0.76:1 (the norm) but with the extra low first gear you could run larger tires or higher (numerically lower) gearing to lower rpm at x/speed.

An AOD, like I said earlier, would be nice if you want to upgrade it. There are stronger aftermarket parts for it (gears/shafts). The awsome factor with it, are its fully mechanical with overdrive (no electronics) so its real easy to install.

Well, my goal is 300hp, and I posted a thread on TRS, they said a HO 302 makes 225hp and 300 ft-lbs, but with a modded throttle body, and some other mods, it would be possible to hit 300hp. They also said a World Class T-5 will hold up to that.

yeah, IIRC the xplorer makes 245 or 265.
5.0L HO ('89-'92) makes 225hp@5600 RPM & 300ft/lbs@4000rpm...IIRC. Nice strong curve.

Have you ever driven a healthy 5.0L HO fox body mustang? Very nice.
I would say with some headers, larger TB &MAF, with a nice cam and re-tuned you'll be hitting 300hp and it'll feel real nice and responisive.
