this problem did not happen the last time i used the computer.

when i turned on the computer and logged in to my home account, there was wallpaper, but no start menu no start bar no desktop icons!

i had to go the the task manager to open I.E to post here.

please tell me how to restore my desktop and task bar.

Wow.. same exact thing happened to me. Corrupted os. Reformating, (as far as i know) is the only way.

Can you do a CTL - ALT - DEL and tell me if explorer.exe is running.

And post back.

It is running. (I think)

I was able to pull up things like virus scans. And windows media player. Although i also got the internet broswer working. But i had wirelss so i couldnt connect. Its impossible to fix...

Or

ctl - alt - del then select new task and type C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\srdiag.exe

I saw a very suspicious process going on - lsass32.exe.

i ended it and all was restored.

checked this process out and indicated that that process was actually a worm.

downloaded a worm removal tool and all is ok.
